The 25-year-old St. Paulis defender Philipp Ziereis has emerged as somewhat a surprise transfer target for the Premier League title chasers Liverpool.
Reports coming from German media outlet Bild are suggesting that Jurgen Klopp has set sights on the German centre-back who is running out of contract with the Bundesliga 2 side at the end of the season.
Ziereis has been one of the most notable players at St. Pauli this season as the Kiezkicker hunt promotion into the top tier of German football. The towering German defender has made 13 appearances thus far in the campaign with St. Pauli sitting in third place in the standings just three points behind joint-leaders FC Koln and Hamburger SV.
Philipp Ziereis is reluctant to sign a new contract with St. Pauli and is likely to leave the club at the end of the season. His impressive showings during the 2018/19 campaign have earned him a great many followers with Jurgen Klopp standing as the most established one.
Liverpool could be in the market for a defender next season as Reds are widely expected to lose Joel Matip in the summer. The Cameroon international has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield and will be looking to change clubs at the earliest opportunity.
