Liverpool interested in Varane

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

Real are believed to want at least €100 million if Varane does wind up leaving and decides not to renew his contract. It’s well-known that he is one of the most successful defenders in world football today in terms of what he’s won and accomplished, and we wouldn’t be shocked to see that trend continue – regardless of where he winds up going next.

Varane himself is a world class defender and, given Liverpool’s need to strengthen that area of the pitch, this feels like a perfect match.

Even when Liverpool have all their first choice defenders back to full fitness, many want to see Virgil van Dijk receive a centre-back partner who is legitimately on his level.

If Varane doesn’t fit into that description, then we’re not entirely sure who does.
