Liverpool join Townsend race

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Newcastle United winger Andros Townsed, according to the Mirror.

The Merseyside outfit are preparing for their first full season under the management of Jurgen Klopp, and have identified the former Tottenham Hotspur man as on of their targets.

Townsend only moved to St James’s Park in January and netted four times in thirteen appearances though was unable to help the North East side avoid relegation to the Championship.

Manchester City are also considering a move for the twenty-four year old who has a buyout clause of £10.5m, while Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Southampton are also ready to throw their hats into the ring.

Prior to moving to Newcastle, Townsend made ninety-three appearances for Spurs as well as turning out for no less than nine sides in various loan spells while he was part of England’s provisional squad for Euro 2016 but did not make Roy Hodgson’s final selection.
