Liverpool join Zieler race

Liverpool have joined Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach in the race to sign Hannover 96 goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, the Express understands.

Reports in Germany claim the Brendan Rodgers men is keen on bringing in the 24 year old as back up for Simon Mignolet, with Pepe Reina expected to secure a permanent move away from Anfield once his loan spell Napoli finishes at the end of the season.

The two-time Germany international has a clause in his contract which could see him leave for £7m on May 1st.

Zieler began his youth career with FC Koln before moving to Manchester United as a trainee in 2005.

He left Old Trafford having made no first team appearances in 2010, with his only games in English football coming in a brief loan spell with Northampton Town.

He has made over 100 appearances for Mirko Slomka’s men, who currently sit in seventh place in the Bundesliga.
