Liverpool Keen on Adam Johnson; Barcelona Target Ashley Cole; Arsenal Want Hulk

European transfer rumours are whistling through the air at the moment. The biggest clubs across the continent are already looking to bolster their squads in the January transfer window.

Today, I will focus on the rumours surrounding Liverpool, FC Barcelona, Chelsea, and Arsenal. Fasten your seat-belts, this could get bumpy.

Liverpool FC

Kenny Dalglish is reportedly  keen on signing Manchester City winger Adam Johnson in January. According to CaughtOffside.com, Dalglish targeted Johnson in the summer but the two sides failed to get a deal done.

Johnson, like Stewart Downing, can play on either wing. Assuming that this transfer goes through, Johnson would likely be deployed on the right-wing and Downing on the left.

Liverpool could use another winger at the moment, making this deal a win-win for both sides. That being said, I’d be somewhat surprised if this deal does not go down in January.

FC Barcelona

Catalan giants FC Barcelona are also looking to add talent to their already strong squad in January. According to the Daily Mirror, the Catalan conquerors are looking to sign Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole and Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Reports have suggested that the La Liga outfit would be willing to pay up to £12million for the England international.

The move would give Barcelona one of the world’s premier defenders. It would also allow Eric Abidal to shift to centre-back, replacing the injury plagued Carles Puyol.

Barcelona have also been keeping a close eye on Tottenham Hotspur left-back and winger Gareth Bale. But the Catalan’s will likely be turned away unless they put together a bid in the region of  £40-50 million for the Welshman, which would make Bale the most expensive player to come out of the United Kingdom.

Now let’s address the speculation surrounding Arsenal star goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

On the 4th of October, Szczesny shocked the Gunners faithful by suggesting that he would be interested in joining the Catalan giants.

“I can’t declare that I will spend my entire career here, but if I leave I will  have a very important reason or I will go to Barcelona,” said Szczesny.

However, the Polish goalkeeper added, “I can’t imagine a situation where I would leave this club just for money.”

My first instinct is telling me to take that last quote with a grain of salt, but that’s just me. A large percentage of transfers are money related, this one would be no different.

Arsenal FC

Finally some good news for Gunners supporters, well…kind of. According to numerous reports, Arsene Wenger has made an approach to sign FC Porto star Hulk.

The problem is that the Frenchman is looking to land the Brazilian international for £23 million, which is significantly shy of the £87 million asking price.

Hulk’s agent, Teodoro Fonseca, said the following regarding this report:

“Every year there are more clubs interest in Hulk and I am also aware that there are clubs from outside the Premier clubs interested.

“This Arsenal rumour is news to me but it is true that there has been contact before but nothing happened.

“But I speak often with Porto and the figures have not changed. He will only be sold if someone pays the €100m (£87m) so this figure of £23m that has appeared would not be considered.”

Keep tuning in to SoccerNews.com for more January transfer rumours and speculation. Good bye for now.

transfers aren’t just money related, but _success_ related.

naturally, good players want to go somewhere where they will win more games and have more chances at winning trophies..

it’s at least as important as money, IMO
