Liverpool lead chase for Higuain
Liverpool are in pole position to sign Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli, according to Metro.
The Reds have been linked with a January move for the Argentina star and the latest reports suggest they have a good chance of landing the hitman as he has told the club he wants out.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to offer around £31 million for the striker’s services after Mario Balotelli failed to prove a worthy replacement for Luis Suarez.
Gonzalo Higuain has impressed since joining Napoli from Real Madrid last summer, bagging 26 goals in 54 competitive outings for the Azzurri.
However, with the team struggling to mount a serious challenge for the Serie A title, it appears the Argentine is ready to leave for a bigger club.
His suitors Liverpool are in action later today as they face FC Basel away in the Champions League, and they are 11/10 to emerge victorious.
Milan back in for Taarabt
Daily Mirror has suggested that AC Milan will make a fresh assault on QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt in the January transfer window.
The Moroccan largely impressed while on loan at San Siro last season, but the Rossoneri were unable to find an agreement over a permanent transfer.
And having made just one substitute appearance since returning to Loftus Road, the 25-year-old is almost certain to leave in January.
According to Daily Mirror, AC Milan are ready to lure him back to San Siro, with the player’s agent confirming a move to Italian Serie A was a realistic possibility.
“Adel can move in January. It’s too soon to say where – but Italy is an option,” Vincenzo Morabito was quoted as saying.
Adel Taarabt made 14 Serie A appearances during the loan spell with the Rossoneri, scoring 4 goals in the process, while starting two Champions League matches as well.
Greece star joins Indian Super League
Greek midfielder Kostas Katsouranis is the latest high-profile player to have moved to Indian Super League, having joined the ranks of FC Pune City.
The 35-year-old was presented as a FC Pune City player earlier today and he joins former Serie A players Davide Trezeguet, Bruno Cirillo and Emanuele Belardi.
Head coach Franco Colomba was delighted with the capture of the former Greece captain as he was on the lookout for a deep-lying playmaker.
“Our team needed a strong playmaker who could play box to box. It was one position which we wanted to fill and now with the inclusion of Kostas in the team, we are surely a more balanced unit,” said Colomba.
Kostas Katsouranis has spent the majority of his professional career in Greece, while spending three years at Benfica.
He has been a very important player for the national team for some ten years now, amassing 114 appearances and scoring 10 goals.
