Liverpool are the latest club to have joined the race for Schalke star Klaas Jan Huntelaar, according to Voetbal International.
The Reds are desperately short of options up front and are eager to sign another high-quality striker in January.
Dutch newspaper Voetbal International understands that Brendan Rodgers has made Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar his number one target.
The 29-year-old has entered the final year of his deal at Veltins Arena, and given that he is highly unlikely to extend his contract, there is every chance the Dutchman will be available at a cut-back price in January.
Liverpool will, therefore, jump at the opportunity to sign the player with a proven goalscoring record for a bargain price, but the problem is other top European clubs are also keen.
Considering that Huntelaar has scored 48 goals in 47 competitive games for Schalke last term, nobody would be surprised if the Netherlands international should be the subject of a real bidding war in January.
