Liverpool linked with move for Delph

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to bid for Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph as he looks for a long term replacement for outgoing captain Steven Gerrard, according to the Mirror.

Delph’s contract is set to be out of contact at the end of the season, so the Reds boss is keen to secure a cut price deal for the midfielder this month.

Should a move for the former Leeds United man be finalised, it could spell the end of Lucas Leiva’s time at Anfield, with the Brazilian linked with a move to Serie A side Napoli, where he would reunite with Rafael Benitez – the man who took him to Merseyside in July 2007.

England international Delph has made over a hundred and twenty appearances in all competitions for Villa since arriving from Elland Road in the summer of 2009, scoring six goals, while he won the first of three caps for his country last August.
