Liverpool remain interested in signing Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers as they make plans for the arguably overdue rebuild in their midfield ranks for next season, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Merseysiders were interested in Nunes even before his €45m move from Sporting Lisbon to Wolves last summer, but they obviously didn’t act decisively enough back then. In the end, they brought in Arthur Melo on loan for the season from Juventus, and that has so far proven to have been a mistake – the Brazilian has put on the famous Red shirt only once so far and has been severely hit by injuries.
It seems Liverpool are prepared to correct that mistake at the end of the season by going back for Nunes, who is not only a good option in the middle of the park but can play upfront as well.
Romano claims the 24-year-old is not considered an alternative to Jude Bellingham – the six-time European champions are still determined to all in for the Borussia Dortmund star – but a potential addition on top, with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both set to leave as free agents.
