Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Merseysiders are certainly due an overhaul in the middle of the park, with several of their main options there well in their thirties, while others have constant injury issues on top of their contracts expiring at the end of the season.
The name that has recently been linked with Liverpool the most in that aspect is Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, but Gomes sparked plenty of speculation himself by openly saying he could see himself playing for the six-time European champions in the near future. Flamengo reacted quickly, however, putting a new five-year contract with improved terms for the 21-year-old Brazilian to sign. That, of course, doesn’t rule out a move away, but it certainly raises the player’s market value.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Gomes would likely come to Anfield to compete with Fabinho for the spot just ahead of the back line.
