Having made an informal contact with his representatives in January, Liverpool continue to monitor Pedro Goncalves of Sporting Lisbon as they prepare for a busy summer, according to Portuguese outlet Record (via the Mirror).
The Premier League title is all but gone for the defending champions following their home defeat to table toppers Manchester City on Sunday. They’re now 10 points behind Pep Guardiola’s team, having played a game more. The centre-back department is obviously something that needs looking into, but it’s also worth noting that forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both turn 29 this year, while Roberto Firmino turns 30.
Liverpool are apparently preparing for a significant squad overhaul in the summer with the accent being on bringing in those who could replace the three attacking stars in the near future, and the 22-year-old Sporting winger, also capable of playing as a No.10, is one of their potential targets. Goncalves has had 16 goal involvements (14 goals, two assists) in as many Liga NOS games for his club this term.
Goncalves signed a five-year contract with Sporting last August and the Portuguese club want to keep him beyond this summer’s transfer window, but they are also prepared to consider potential offers.
