PSV Eindhoven have confirmed that they’ve reached a full agreement with Liverpool over the transfer of Cody Gakpo to Anfield.
The talks between the Merseysiders and PSV Eindhoven obviously progressed very quickly, and the medical preceding the move should take place imminently. After that, it’ll be only up to Liverpool to issue an official confirmation.
Liverpool’s seemingly sudden determination to sign the Netherlands international stems from the injury absences of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, both of whom are expected to remain out of action a while yet. They’ve reportedly beaten Manchester United in this race, after the Red Devils considered the winger last summer and maintained their interest in his services afterwards.
Gakpo usually plays on the left attacking flank, and his pace and creativity is likely to be of great value for Jurgen Klopp’s team. The 23-year-old has so far played 24 matches in all competitions for PSV this season, scoring 13 goals and producing 17 assists. He also scored three goals in five matches for his country at the World Cup in Qatar.
Liverpool are expected to pay an initial fee of £37 million for Gakpo, with add-ons set to take the total amount to €50m.
PSV and @LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.
The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.
