Liverpool have not held any talks with RB Leipzig over a potential move for Timo Werner, according to Liverpool Echo.
The Germany international’s terrific numbers in a Leipzig shirt this season – 30 goals and 12 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions – reportedly continue attracting the attention of top clubs around Europe. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Juventus have all been linked with the prolific striker, but none more so than Liverpool. Werner himself has praised the Champions League holders and their manager Jurgen Klopp on more than one occasion, also expressing his opinion that his own style would fit in well with the way they play.
But on Wednesday evening, David Maddock of the Mirror reported that the Merseysiders withdrew the talks due to Leipzig being unwilling to negotiate a price lower than his release clause, set at €60 million. However, Liverpool Echo claim that’s not the case, simply because there were never any talks to withdraw from.
It remains to be seen if that changes once the transfer window actually opens.
