Liverpool are ready to swoop for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, after the Belgian international hinted that he could soon move away from the Stadium of Light.
Despite his side surviving in the Premier League by just three points, the 24 year old kept eleven clean sheets; form which saw him named the club’s player of the year.
Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a move for a new number one following increasing speculation surrounding the future of Pepe Reina, who has been strongly linked with a move back to former club Barcelona.
Asmir Begovic of Stoke City has also been rumoured to be a target for Liverpool, though Mignolet now appears to be the front runner having suggested whilst on international duty that he could be playing elsewhere next season.
Arsenal had also been linked with a move for Mignolet, though the Metro understands that they are now close to signing Queens Park Rangers shot-stopper Julio Cesar.
