Schalke’s Max Meyer has cancelled a scheduled meeting with the club officials when the two parties were set to discuss a new contract for the player, according to a report in the Mirror.
This has put Liverpool on “red alert” as the newspaper report claims, with manager Jürgen Klopp still in search of a player who can provide a creative spark in his midfield, as well as deputize as a wide forward; something his team has been missing since Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona.
Meyer’s contract expires at the end of the season, and as the player seems reluctant to even discuss a new deal, it looks like his spell in Gelsenkirchen is about to come to an end.
The project that is being developed at Liverpool, with Klopp at the helm, would present an exciting prospect for any player in search of a new challenge, especially one who has all the characteristics they are looking for at the moment. The current Bundesliga duo of Meyer and Naby Keita playing together and feeding passes for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane certainly is a mouthwatering prospect.
