Liverpool have opened discussions with Stoke City about signing Xherdan Shaqiri, according to The Telegraph.
Jürgen Klopp is in pursuit of a versatile attacking player, someone who can play across the front three and successfully deputize for any one of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The superb trio terrorized defences in the Premier League as well as in their run-up to the Champions League final, but when any one of them was unavailable, the drop in quality when either Danny Ings or Dominic Solanke featured was deemed far too great.
The Swiss international was Stoke’s arguably best player last season, and his Premier League experience should see the Reds improve in squad depth as they build a team to challenge for the league title in England, as well as aiming for another successful Champions League campaign.
Shaqiri has a relegation release clause in his contract with the Potters. It had been reported to stand at around £12million, but The Telegraph claim the figure is actually above £13million.
