In the midst of the biggest crisis in club’s recent history, Liverpool are set to bid for Zenit striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov.
Liverpool scouts have watched Kerzhakov score for Russia against Ireland last week, while the Reds have also asked for additional video tapes of the player, who’s been in lethal form of late, having scored 11 goals in last 8 games.
The Russian striker has seen his career return to the right track following a move to Zenit and the Reds are now prepared to offer £6 million for the Russian international.
Following one of the worst starts in their history, Liverpool desperately want to reinforce the squad in January, with Aleksandr Kerzhakov seen as a perfect addition to Fernando Torres up front.
Nevertheless, any future arrivals will depend on whether Roy Hodgson keeps his job after the dismal start to the season, whereas even if Zenit agree to sell their prized asset, it is highly unlikely that £6 million would do the trick.
