Having given up on the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, Liverpool are now pushing to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion, according to Fabrizio Romano. Apparently, the Merseysiders are currently working on convincing the player himself to join their project, before moving to agree a proposed transfer with his current club.
Mac Allister, who played a notable role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph, is widely expected to leave the Amex at the end of the season, with a number of top clubs believed to be interested in his services. It seems the Seagulls have become resigned to losing the 24-year-old midfielder too, though with his contract valid until 2025 and Brighton having the option to extend it by a year, they’re likely to receive a large sum as compensation.
Brighton initially signed Mac Allister from Argentinos Juniors in January 2019, but he spent that spring on loan back at his former club, and the following autumn at Boca Juniors. He was finally deemed ready to play in the Premier League by January 2020, and since then, he’s made a total of 105 matches for Brighton, scoring 18 goals and producing eight assists.
