Liverpool ready to offload players to bring in Chelsea forward

A report from the Daily Mirror suggests that Liverpool are keen to sign Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge in the final few days of this summer’s transfer window.

Should Brendan Rodgers be able to lure the England international to Anfield then reports say that he will need to offload players to meet the Blues £15 million asking price for the striker.

This could mean that both Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing are on their way out of Liverpool to make funds available.

Rodgers seems keen on adding a new front-man to his squad to add some fire power and Sturridge can of course play out wide as well so is certainly versatile.

The Chelsea man has been left frustrated so far this campaign with Roberto Di Matteo only using him as a substitute. Fernando Torres looks as though he is Di Matteo’s first choice striker in the English Premier League.

This may make Sturridge keen on a move to Liverpool to increase his amount of first-team opportunities.

Rodgers seems to be a big admirer of the Englishman and is set to try and persuade him to join his side by promising him more time in his favourite position which is as an out-and-out striker.

Downing’s arrival hasn’t really paid off. Just like Carroll’s one. I think Sturridge as Steward’s replacement will be a good move. The guy is pretty good.
