Real Madrid had approached Liverpool for the transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, according to Paul Joyce of The Times, but the Merseysiders turned it down without a second’s thought, directing all their forces and energy towards winning the Premier League title. The two clubs didn’t even discuss any figures, as Liverpool made it perfectly clear the 26-year-old was not for sale.
Meanwhile, reports in Spain also say Los Blancos would prefer a deal to be done next month, but they’re also willing to wait until the summer when Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool expires. They will be free to talk to his representatives over a potential free transfer at the end of the season from Wednesday, January 1st.
Liverpool would, of course, prefer to keep Alexander-Arnold long-term and have been negotiating with him over a new contract for several months now, but no agreement has been reached.
Having scored in Liverpool’s 5-0 win away to West Ham on Sunday, the England international made a gesture which appeared to be aimed at silencing a rumour from Spain that he had already informed the Anfield hierarchy of his wish to move to Real Madrid.
