Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic, Metro has suggested.
The Reds had the player watched in the weekend’s 2-1 triumph over Villarreal and Brendan Rodgers seems convinced the Croat has what it takes to succeed at Anfield.
And with Steven Gerrard still out injured, a January move for Rakitic could be on the cards, although Liverpool could face competition from Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.
The Croatia international has a £33 million release clause in his contract, but it is believed he would be available for lot less.
Rakitic was one of just a handful of high-profile players to have remained at the club this summer, but he has impressed to score 7 goals in 15 La Liga fixtures.
He, however, appears to be tempted by the interest from top European clubs and chances are that Sevilla won’t be able to keep hold of him for much longer.
