Liverpool set to open Cole talks

Liverpool are ready to begin talks over a deal for Chelsea full back Ashley Cole, according to the Metro.

The England international has been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and the Reds are leading the chase to secure his services.

Cole has made fewer appearances in the Premier League this season than in any of his previous seven campaigns with the Blues, having lost his place to Cesar Azpilicueta.

His lack of playing time has led to serious doubts over his place in England manager Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad this summer, by which time he will be out of contract.

However, whilst a move to the MLS has been mooted, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to offer the 33 year-old a twelve month deal to provide valuable experience, with the Reds expected to be back in the Champions League next season.
