Liverpool will this week meet the release clause in Christian Benteke’s contract this week, according to the Express.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has already brought in six new signing this summer – the latest of which was England international Nathaniel Clyne who moved to Anfield from Southampton last week.
Benteke has long been linked with a move away from Villa Park, with North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also interested in securing his services.
Since arriving in England, the twenty-four year old has played one hundred times in all competitions, scoring twenty-four goals while his last appearance for the club was the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal back in May.
Internationally he has twenty-four caps for Belgium, scoring seven goals while he missed last summer’s World Cup finals through injury.
Having finished in sixth place last season, Liverpool begin the forthcoming campaign with a trip to Stoke City, with the away win priced at 11/8.
