Liverpool step up chase for Marcos Rojo

Liverpool are ready to launch a fresh assault on Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo, reports A Bola.

With Aly Cissokho unlikely to remain at Anfield beyond the summer, Brendan Rodgers is eager to sign a new left-back to provide competition for Jose Enrique.

And it appears the Liverpool boss is hot on the trail of Sporting Lisbon full-back Marcos Rojo, who has seen his stock rise a great deal of late.

The Reds are believed to be leading the chase for the player’s signature, although they could face competition from other top clubs.

Marcos Rojo has impressed in a left-back role for both club and country, while he can also play at centre-back if needed.

Considering that he is considered a first team regular for Argentina, Liverpool will attempt to wrap up the deal before the 2014 World Cup, as his price is likely to increase even further after the tournament.
