According to Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, Liverpool have intensified their contacts with the representatives of Rayan Cherki, with the intention of signing the 21-year-old from Olympique Lyon.
Lyon have been provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 due to their alarming financial situation. The relegation is not definite at this point, but if the seven-time English champions are to avoid that fate, they will have to sell a number of players in their squad. Under such circumstances, Cherki could leave the club for no more than €30 million.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Cherki uses both feet in equal measure and can be deployed on either attacking flank as well. A product of the Lyon academy, he was linked with Real Madrid frequently in the past. In all competitions, he has 19 goals and 28 assists in 152 appearances for his current club so far.
His contract with Lyon expires in 2026, his transfer somewhere appears imminent at this point, and Liverpool are leading the race.
