Liverpool target told he can leave

Aston Villa midfielder Stuart Downing is on the verge of completing a move to Liverpool after being informed that he can leave Villa Park.

Aston Villa have told the England international that he can leave for 19 million euros, adding fuel to speculations linking the player to Liverpool.

New Villa boss Alex McLeish doesn’t want to lose Downing, but he has decided to cash in on the winger after the talks over a new contract appeared to have stalled.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on the experienced winger as they look to add more quality to their wing positions, although they are also considering Dimitry Payet and few other players.

According to Daily Mail, Downing is eager to return to the biggest stage and would relish a move to Anfield, although the hefty price tag could prove to be a stumbling block.
