Liverpool to battle West Ham in the race to sign Song

Liverpool are ready to make an £11.5m move for on-loan West Ham United midfielder Alex Song, according to the Metro.

The ex-Arsenal man has been at Upton Park since the summer, and has been one of the stand-out performers in Sam Allardyce’s side helping them to seventh place in the table.

He has made fifteen appearances for the Hammers in all competitions and has already started as many league games this season as he did for parent club Barcelona in the 2013/14 campaign.

His future at the Nou Camp appears to be over, so a permanent transfer away from the Catalan club this month seems highly likely.

West Ham are keen to keep hold of the Cameroon international, but will face stiff competition from Liverpool who are looking for a long term replacement for outgoing captain Steven Gerrard, who is set to move to the MLS at the end of the season.
