Virgil van Dijk is one of the three Liverpool stars (Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold being the other two), whose contracts have come inexplicably close their mutual expiration date – the end of June, 2025. Though there has been plenty of speculation about the future of all three, there haven’t been concrete news on any potential developments.
Some outlets keep suggesting the Merseyside club are looking for potential replacements, and according to Caught Offside, they’re looking into the possibility of signing Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund if Van Dijk leaves.
At the age of 24, Schlotterbeck has 17 caps as a Germany international to his name so far. He joined Dortmund from SC Freiburg 2022, and since then, he’s made a total of 96 appearances for the club, mostly as a centre-back, though he can play on the left defensive flank as well. Come next summer, there will still be two years left on his contract.
