Much has been said across the media spectre in England about Liverpool’s perceived lack in the midfield section through the summer, and the suggestions that the Merseysiders could do with another quality player in there have only gotten more urgent after the underwhelming start to the season.
With Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all absent through injuries, Jurgen Klopp’s option in the middle of the park have indeed been extremely limited in the opening three Premier League fixtures, in which the Reds were unable to record a single victory.
There have been names mentioned as potential targets, and one that has come up recently is Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
The Netherlands international was long pursued by Manchester United and more recent reports spoke of Chelsea as his potential destination, but now, according to El Nacional, Liverpool have prepared an offer of their own to try and take the 25-year-old to Anfield instead.
Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez would apparently like to keep De Jong, but the club would still be willing to let him go for the right price.
