According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Liverpool are the latest name on the list of top clubs interested in signing Joao Neves from Benfica.
As far as the Premier League is concerned, previous links with the 19-year-old midfielder include Manchester United and Chelsea. However, Chelsea have practically lost all chance of qualifying for the Champions League, and United don’t stand much better in that respect after their draw with Brentford on Saturday, so Liverpool, who have already matched their points total from last season with nine games to spare, have a huge advantage in this race.
On the other hand, the Merseysiders will reportedly face stiffer competition from outside England, namely from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
As for Benfica, their interests in this matter are protected by the fact that there’s still four years left on Neves’ contract, and the release clause which potential suitors might trigger to take the decision out of their hands is believed to be set at €120 million.
