Liverpool are the latest addition to the list of clubs contemplating a move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old Croatia international was reportedly of strong interest to Chelsea during the January transfer window, but Leipzig rejected their advances. That apparently didn’t go down too well with the player himself as he repeatedly stated he would like to continue his career in the Premier League, but for the time being, he remains focused on his current club and finishing the season as strongly as possible.
There have been plenty of signs of Liverpool needing a large rebuilding job in the summer, the latest one being the home thrashing suffered at the hands of Real Madrid in the Champions League this week. Even though the midfield section is where the biggest changes need to happen and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham remains their No.1 target, a defender or two are likely to be on their shopping list as well with the club willing to back manager Jurgen Klopp in the summer transfer market considerably.
Apart from Chelsea, Manchester City are believed to be interested in Gvardiol too, but Gvardiol recently named Liverpool as his “dream club”.
It is also important to note that Leipzig want to make Gvardiol the most expensive defender ever, a record currently held by Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and his transfer from Leicester City for £80m in 2019.
