The Daily Mail is this afternoon reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Newcastle United striker Demba Ba this summer.
The 27-year-old reportedly has a clause in his contract which means he can leave the club for a reduced price and new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is interested in activating it.
After scoring 15 goals in the Premier League last season, it is easy to see why clubs are interested in Ba, but whether Newcastle are willing to sell is another matter.
The former West Ham striker formed an excellent partnership with Papiss Cisse for Newcastle and breaking this up before the season gets underway would be a risk.
However, if Liverpool put a firm bid on the table, Newcastle may be forced to at least consider things. With Tottenham also interested according to the Daily Mirror, it could mean Newcastle get plenty of cash for Ba.
As for where the player stands on his future, you would imagine he is more than happy at Newcastle. He has formed a tremendous bond with the fans and would love to continue the success of last season.
This could end up being a non-starter, but if Liverpool’s interest is confirmed, this is one to keep an eye on.
