Liverpool are about to complete the deal to sign Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg, according to reports from every major outlet and reliable journalist in these matters, including Paul Joyce of The Times, James Pearce of The Athletic (formerly of Liverpool Echo), and David Maddock of the Mirror.
The Japanese international has impressed Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp in the two Champions League games between the two sides this season. He even got on the scoresheet at Anfield.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder apparently has a buyout clause in his contract set at around €10 million, which Liverpool see as a bargain, valuing the player at least three times as much. Manchester United were also interested and were about to make concrete steps, and that was the trigger for Liverpool to step their own interest up.
The Champions League holders are convinced the deal is practically done and that Minamino will be wearing their shirt come January. Klopp has successfully rotated his team in the last several games, but this signing will give him another high-quality option.
