The Daily Mail is reporting that Liverpool will have to spend £7m if they are to secure the services of Cristian Tello.
New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to add some young talent to his squad and Tello – who only has one year to run on his current contract – could fit the bill.
The 20-year-old has represented Spain at youth level and is highly regarded in La Liga and if Barcelona are to sell, they want a decent return.
A lot could come down to what the player and his representatives think of a potential move though. Even if a fee is agreed, moving abroad at 20-years-old is a massive step.
Perhaps Tello needs to assess whether he is going to get a game at Barcelona in the next couple of years. If he is not, moving to Liverpool and a new challenge in England might be the way forward.
Liverpool also need to decide whether they want to spend £7m on a player that isn’t proven at the highest level quite yet. They would be taking a calculated gamble on finding someone that can get them crucial Premier League goals.
As with many transfer stories, this one looks set to develop over the next few weeks.
