The future of Trent Alexander-Arnold is becoming less certain by the day as the contract binding the right-back to Liverpool approaches its expiration date at the end of the season. Real Madrid are said to be lurking in wait, believing the 26-year-old has his heart set on leaving Anfield for the Santiago Bernabeu.
Liverpool would, of course, prefer to keep hold of their vice-captain, but if he does choose to leave, they have no means to hold him. And if the move actually happens, according to German outlet Bild, the Merseysiders have set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement.
Frimpong actually rose through the youth ranks at Manchester City, and had a two-year spell with Celtic before joining Leverkusen in 2021. Since then, he’s gone on to make a total of 160 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, scoring 26 goals and producing 39 assists.
He’s been an important part of the team under Xabi Alonso, playing a big role in Die Werkself winning the domestic double last season.
