Premier League giants Liverpool have once again exposed all of their defensive frailties in the 2-2 draw against Sevilla at the start of their Champions League campaign.
The Reds lack a world-class centre-back to command their defensive line and bring stability and composure at the back. Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan have largely failed to fit the bill and Jurgen Klopp is forced to look elsewhere to solve his problems.
Having failed in their attempt to land Southampton star Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool are said to be exploring other options. Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij is said to be one of the names topping the list.
Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and Juventus are all said to be keeping tabs on the Lazio defender who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Lazio are keen to offer him a contract extension but at this point, it seems highly unlikely that the quality defender will remain in Rome past the current season.
Liverpool are reportedly keen to cut the line and beat the competition to de Vrij services in January. The Mirror claims an offer worth €15 million could be enough to land the Lazio man.
