Premier League giants Liverpool had been heavily linked with a swoop for one of Monaco’s only remaining stars Thomas Lemar for some time, but reports suggest that they have ended their pursuit of the Frenchman in recent weeks. Their new target is Bayer Leverkusen youngster Leon Bailey, according to the Mirror.
Bailey is just 20-years of age and has already broken into the Leverkusen first team, impressing with his performances in the Bundesliga this season. The Jamaican winger has registered eight goals and five assists in 19 appearances in the German top flight, which is a remarkable return.
While it is little surprise that his exploits have caught the eye of some of the top clubs around Europe, it is perhaps surprising that Liverpool are the team leading the race for his services. The Reds are not short on talented wingers, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in good form this season, but Bailey will perhaps become a long-term replacement for the recently departed Philippe Coutinho.
