Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard had a scan on his troublesome groin on Thursday which could keep him out of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final return leg against Chelsea.
Depending on the results of the scan, which are expected on Friday, he could miss Liverpool’s English Premier League match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and Tuesday’s game at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez told reporters after Wednesday’s game that the England midfielder played even though he was not fully fit. “Steven was not 100 per cent, you could see that. It was the same for Fernando Torres, you could see that they were a little tired, not as sharp as before,” Benitez said. “But they have been playing well and we felt it was okay to use them both in this game. We need them.”
