London Evening Standard understands that Liverpool could make a move on Borussia Dortmund stopper Neven Subotic.
The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp yesterday confirmed that he did not have an agreement with the Millionaires not to sign players from Signal-Iduna Park, and he is now expected to try and lure the Serbian centre-back to Anfield.
And while Mats Hummels was his number one target, the Germany international is likely to prove too expensive, with Klopp now turning his attention towards Subotic.
The 26-year-old has lost his place in the side with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and there is a good chance Borussia would consider serious offers for his services.
It was Jurgen Klopp who had brought Subotic to Signal-Iduna Park from Mainz and he could now take him to Anfield as well.
It is believed that Borussia value Subotic at £15 million, although having made just one league appearance this season, he might be purchased for less.
