Liverpool are preparing to swoop in for Stuttgart’s Benjamin Pavard next summer, according to the Mirror.
The versatile defender, fully capable of playing either as a centre-back or a right back, would apparently cost the Reds around £35million, which is certainly not too much for a World Cup winner and a player who was one of the revelations of the tournament in Russia.
Pavard started his career at Lille and he played there two years before moving to Germany to join Stuttgart. So far he’s been there also two years, making a total of 57 appearances for them in all competitions and scoring two goals. He was linked with a large number of clubs this summer after the World Cup, but it looks like he’s set to remain where he is for another season, before Liverpool make their move.
The Merseyside club have let Ragnar Klavan leave for Cagliari, and with the experienced Estonian gone manager Jurgen Klopp may be thinking about increasing the competition at the back.
