Liverpool would like to resolve the situation surrounding the contract of Mohamed Salah before the current season ends, according to Sky Sports journalist Vinny O’Connor.
The Egyptian has only 18 months remaining on his current deal, and it’s natural that both sides want the matter resolved. Liverpool want to keep Salah and Salah wants to stay at Liverpool, but the negotiations are more complicated than that.
Widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, the 29-year-old forward obviously wants his wages to reflect his status and quality, but also for the club to continue showing ambition to win trophies in the future. He is aware that it will require squad rejuvenation to an extent, given that several key players are in, or approaching, their thirties.
Top clubs around Europe are hovering around, continually trying to work out if there is a possibility of prizing Salah away from Anfield, and that complicates the matter further, despite the player’s desire to remain where he is.
