Liverpool want to keep Dejan Lovren past this summer’s transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Croatia international has fallen down the pecking order under manager Jurgen Klopp, behind not only Virgil van Dijk, but also Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. He still made 11 Premier League starts, with injuries allowing him that game-time. The Champions League winners have also added another centre-back to their ranks by signing Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle, but at the age of only 17, the newcomer is set to spend his first season on Merseyside adapting to the new surroundings and possibly playing for the U-23 side.
Lovren has recently been linked with AC Milan, who seem to be keen on bringing him to the Serie A. However, it also seems that Klopp still sees the former Southampton man as an important member of his squad and doesn’t want to make the ranks thinner by allowing an experienced, reliable defender to leave. The contract binding Lovren with Anfield has still two years left to run.
