Liverpool are interested in signing Alan Varela from FC Porto in the summer transfer window, according to Fichajes. The report has claimed that Liverpool had scouts watching Varela in action this past weekend. Chelsea are also reported to have been present at the game.
The report has noted that Varela has a release clause of €70 million in his contract at FC Porto, adding that former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool could afford to pay that sum. Varela is a central midfielder who can protect the back-four as well as drive the team forward.
Varela has made 23 starts and one substitute appearance in Liga Portugal so far this season. He has scored two goals and given three assists in those games. The 22-year-old Argentine midfielder has made eight appearances in the UEFA Champions League this season.
