Liverpool are preparing a big money bid for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the Mirror.
Brendan Rodgers has been monitoring the Armenian international for some months, and will be backed by the clubs American owners to make a move, regardless of the future of want-away striker Luis Suarez.
Mkihitaryan was identified as Liverpool’s number one target long before any discussion regarding a potential exit for last season’s top scorer, who last week confirmed that he would welcome a move away from Anfield.
Rodgers is keen to recruit a midfielder who can contribute goals to the side, and with an impressive return of 25 in 29 league appearances, the 24 year old is the perfect fit.
Liverpool sent scouts out to view the player a number of times during the 2012-13 campaign, and so have stolen a march on their rivals, with Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and Juventus also interested.
