Liverpool’s Swiss defender Philipp Degen has completed a season long loan move to German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. The transfer marks Degen’s return to Germany after a gap of two years. Degen used to ply his trade for Borussia Dortmund when he was signed by then Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez on a free transfer.
Degen made sparing appearances for the Reds in his two year stint at Anfield as he was constantly plagued by injury. He had a talk with new boss Roy Hodgson last month and was told by the latter that he could look for a new club.
Degen’s move to Stuttgart reunites him with Christian Gross, who once managed him at Swiss outfit Basel.
