Former France international Bixente Lizarazu has taken a swipe at the professionalism of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder David Beckham.
Beckham visited China last week, before PSG’s Champions League quarter-final first leg match against Barcelona on Tuesday, in his role as a football ambassador.
Lizarazu feels the former Manchester United star should have been preparing for the match against Barca instead.
“I am sorry, but travelling to China to promote football only 10 days before the most important game of the season is simply not the right way to prepare,” Lizarazu told TF1.
“No other club would allow one of their players to go on a trip like this. It’s unprofessional.
“The question is whether Beckham is a marketing tool or a football player. If he’s a marketing product, that’s great as people are talking about PSG all over the world. But don’t make it out as if he’s a football player.”
Beckham has made five official appearances for the Ligue 1 leaders since his January move.
