Lloris defends Pochettino; Mancini returns ‘home’

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. goalkeeper Hugo Lloris does not believe manager Mauricio Pochettino should not be blamed for the club's poor start to the 2014-15 campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. goalkeeper Hugo Lloris does not believe manager Mauricio Pochettino should not be blamed for the club’s poor start to the 2014/15 campaign.

Spurs (4-2-5), fresh off a 2-1 home defeat to Stoke City last weekend, are currently in 12th-place in the English Premier League, having lost four of their six league fixtures at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham’s supporters are becoming increasingly unhappy with the club’s lack of success, with many suggesting Pochettino’s tactics and team selections are to blame.

However, Lloris has dismissed these suggestions, insisting he ‘trusts’ the Argentine.

“I do not blame him,” the France international told  L’Equipe. “I trust the coaching staff and the current head coach.

“When it’s the third coach in a year and there are problems, the coach is not necessarily the problem. Nevertheless, we are working and trying to find answers.”

When asked if he regrets joining Tottenham from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2012, Lloris said: “I do not regret it at all. I knew times like this at Lyon.

“However, at Lyon there was a real pressure on a daily basis and crisis management. We are more left to ourselves in London, where we are comfortable.

“We have to get out of this because if we ever play to stay up, being comfortable is not going to help us. That makes me sorry for the coach.”

After the international break, Spurs are scheduled to travel to the KC Stadium to face Hull City, who have failed to find the back of the net in their last three league matches after drawing 2-2 at Arsenal on 18 October.

Mancini returns ‘home’

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has returned for a second stint in charge of FC Internazionale Milano after the sacking of Walter Mazzarri.

Mancini, who left Galatasaray in the summer, spent nearly four years in charge of the Nerazzurri before stepping down in March 2008. He won seven trophies during his first stint at the San Siro, including three straight Italian Serie A titles.

“I am happy to return to a club that I consider to be my home, as Inter and their fans always remained in my heart,” Mancini told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I prepare for a stimulating and gratifying adventure: We have the derby [against Milan] as soon as we come back from the [international] break, then the match with Roma, one of the favorites for the Scudetto. We need to get to work, without wasting time.”
