Former Spartak Moscow striker Welliton has emerged as a target for local rivals Lokomotiv Moscow, Izvestia can reveal.
Loko are desperately short of options up front following the departure of Dame N’Doye as coach Miodrag Bozovic only has Roman Pavlychenko and Omar Niasse at his disposal.
As a result, Lokomotiv have expressed their interest in signing Brazilian forward Welliton from Mersin Idmanyurdu.
Despite only moving to Turkey last summer, the 28-year-old is ready to return to Russian Premier League, where he enjoyed several very successful seasons with Spartak.
Welliton represented the Russian giants on 132 occasions in the league and scored 61 goals in the process.
The Brazilian has a contract until June 2016 with Mersin and should be available for a fee of €2 million this winter.
Lokomotiv finished the first part of the league campaign in fifth place, but seeing as they are mere four points behind second-placed CSKA, Loko hope to mount a serious challenge for Champions League positions.
