Lomas named St Johnstone manager

Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone have appointed Steve Lomas as the club’s new manager.

The Northern Irishman, 37, has signed a deal with the McDiarmid Park side that will keep him there until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Lomas takes over from caretaker duo Alec Cleland and Jody Morris who had been in charge of the club since former boss Derek McInnes left to take charge at Bristol City last month.

Lomas was interviewed on Friday, and has agreed to terms with the Perth side meaning he will take charge of the Saints – who are fourth in the SPL – for their home clash with Aberdeen on Sunday.

Lomas will bring on Tommy Wright, a former international team-mate of his at Northern Ireland, as his assistant.

Lomas represented Manchester City, West Ham and Queens Park Rangers as a player, while his managerial resume includes stints at St Neots Town and West Ham reserves.

Lomas’ appointment was St Johnstone chairman Geoff Brown’s final act in the job, and he has announced he will stand down to be replaced by his son Steven.
