Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has indicated that Sean Longstaff is currently negotiating a new contract with the club.
Longstaff has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with the 21-year-old midfielder perfectly representing the type of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the 20-time English Champions were targeting over the summer – young, talented, British. They ended up signing the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Harry Maguire, but Longstaff obviously got away for the time being.
Talking to the press ahead of his team’s trip to West London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Bruce spoke about the importance of not losing the best players for a club, and having mentioned both Sean and his brother Matty, who scored the winning goal against United two weeks ago, he said there were a few players currently in negotiations and he expects those to move along soon. Sean’s current contract doesn’t expire before the summer of 2022, and if he signs a new one, it would be a heavy stroke against the efforts of United, if they intend to keep their interest alive.
